I have over 20 years experience working for some of the biggest, blue chip financial services firms in the UK.
I have held roles as diverse as BDM and Director of Commercial Finance (Bank of Scotland), Regional Manager, Head of Sales and Vice President (Merrill Lynch), Sales & Marketing Director (GE Capital) and finally, Director of Business Development for my own company where I developed a robust and profitable finance intermediary.
I have had numerous promotions over the years, based largely I believe on my ability to deliver on published KPI's whilst managing remote sales and operational teams within budget.
After leaving GE Capital - I started up my own company.
I had to learn on the job extremely quickly as running your own company is vastly different from being employed by a blue chip firm and you quickly understand that profit and cashflow are not just important - they are absolutely essential and the number 1 thing I have learned from this is...Cashflow is everything.
In addition, I learnt to code in HTML, PHP and CSS and since that day in 2009, I have created over 50 websites (and bought over 200 domain names), many of which are in Wordpress but there are also a few HTML, Joomla and Drupal sites in that mix.
I love CRM systems and I'm a big fan of Salesforce and I believe it is essential that any business, regardless of whether it is in the professional sector, should use data as the backbone of their business and when managing sales teams, I insist on every telephone call, email (this can be synced) meeting, tender, quote or proposal to be entered onto Salesforce by each member of the sales team.
This way, even if the account manager leaves the company, someone new can pick up the baton and know exactly where that particular account is in terms of its sales cycle and previous communications.
I believe that I inspire loyalty in my teams and I consider myself to be an open, approachable, transparent manager but who is also able to make the big decisions for the good of the wider business.
