Mark Balch is an experienced educator with nearly 30 years of experience in education, including more than 20 years in leadership roles. His career has been centered on improving student achievement, emotional well-being, and academic success. Mark has contributed at both the school site and district levels, focusing on driving instructional changes and fostering community engagement to enhance the learning experience for all students.

In 2023, Mark became the Director of New Teacher and Migrant Support for the Kern High School District (KHSD) in Bakersfield, California. KHSD is one of the largest K-12 districts in California, serving over 43,000 students. In this role, Mark G. Balch, Ed.D., oversees programs that support new teachers and provide resources for migrant students, ensuring they have the necessary tools for success in their education.

Mark holds a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne, a master’s degree in Educational Administration from California State University, Bakersfield, and a bachelor’s degree in History from The Master's College. Throughout his career, he has used his leadership abilities to oversee the expansion of several key initiatives, such as the Kern High Teacher Residency program. Under his direction, the program has become one of the largest in California, offering essential support to new teachers and mentors.

Mark has also led the Kern High Induction Program, which received full certification for seven years, and the Migrant Support program, which boasts an impressive graduation rate of over 98%. These successes reflect his dedication to improving educational outcomes, particularly for students needing additional assistance.

Before his current role, Mark served as the principal of North High School, where he developed innovative programs like a high school aviation program and career-based pathways. He collaborated with local community leaders to drive positive change in a high-poverty area, providing students with academic and career growth opportunities.

Mark’s previous roles included Instructional Services Director and Assistant Principal, where he worked on curriculum development, professional development, and instructional practices. His efforts have helped improve education across the district.
