MARK DAVID CEREZO
Marikina City
Mark David Cerezo is an artist who dedicates his time in reaching out to the less fortunate kids. He shares his God-given talent through honing the youth’s creativity and resourcefulness. He is a proof that all Filipino youth are creative in all sorts of things, are always neat, hard working, persevering, and systematic. That’s why he sees all talented Filipino youth as a Pinoy Malikhain.
Realizing his role of inspiring others, he started teaching children in 2006. Mark traveled to depressed and remote areas in Marikina, Metro Manila, and around the Philippines with the advocacy of promoting creativeness, resourcefulness, and good moral values to the youth. Aside from arts and crafts, he also tells children stories and tales with the theme of recycling as well as the proper disposal of garbage. He pursues in giving importance to the youth’s talents which he believes that will help them learn more and inspire others.
In 2009, a strong typhoon called “Ondoy” hits Metro Manila where one of the most affected cities is Marikina. After the onslaught of the Typhoon Ondoy, many people starved, lost their homes, suffered, and died. One of the causes seen in this dreadful flood was the garbage blocking the waterways of the city as well as the deforestation of the Marikina Watershed.
After the frightful memory of that incident, Mark did not hesitate to encourage the youth to start a new life again. He gave seminars to children, telling them stories about the importance of taking care of the nature and the harmful effects of the destruction of our environment.
Since then, Mark gained friends who voluntarily help him in carrying out his advocacy. Mark and his team ‘Pinoy Malikhain’ has been continuously inspiring different batches of children. But why do they focus on children? It’s because they are the next generation who will not only lead our country, but will take care of our natural resources. It is better to prepare them as early as now so they can live by the good values Mark’s team teaches them.
Lastly, Mark wants the Filipino youth of today to realize that talents are a gift from God. It must be used for other’s welfare and be shared to other people. This shows how great God is for giving each and every one in the earth a way of reaching out with each other through sharing.
He is known as the RUBBERMAN and regarded by many as the only recognized Rubber Artist of Marikina City
