I previously worked in government (Chief, NAFTA/CAFTA-DR Arbitration, U.S. State Dept.) and private practice (Covington & Burling). At the U.S. State Department, I led the team that represents the United States in investment treaty arbitration and worked on U.S. treaty negotiations (including TPP and US-China BIT negotiations).

I also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho during South Africa's transition to democracy.

My articles have been cited by UNCTAD, OECD, ICTSD, the World Economic Forum, and the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

I frequently present on international law issues, particularly in Asia, including speaking engagements in Beijing, Xi'an, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, Singapore, Cebu, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Seoul.

I have been based in Shenzhen since 2011.
