Mark Jordahl
Gold Hill, Colorado
I am a writer, naturalist, educator and trip leader. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Buddhist Studies and a Masters in Conservation Education, which really aren't as different as you might think. I am deeply dedicated to keeping some wild in the world, and wish it was ok to talk about our spiritual need for wilderness in the field of conservation.
I have lived in Kampala, Uganda on and off for the last eight years, mostly working on wildlife conservation through local tourism development. I have been leading full-immersion trips to Uganda since 2007 through my company, Conservation Concepts. I am now based in a small town at 8,500′ in the mountains of Colorado.
Recent publications include guidebooks for Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley and Lake Mburo National Parks in Uganda.
In a past life I taught Natural History and Ecology of the Pacific Northwest as adjunct faculty at University of Washington, through the graduate program in Education, Environment and Community at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island. While at IslandWood I also taught field-based environmental education to kids of all ages and facilitated corporate retreats for Boeing, Starbucks, DLR Group, and many others.
In my spare time, I am learning the ins-and-outs of GIS, the doting father of two amazing sons (Nile and Japhy), and the lucky husband of Devin Hibbard, co-founder of BeadforLife.
