Throughout his life and career, government affairs specialist and corporate executive Mark Knouse has remained involved in a vast array of professional, charitable, and personal endeavors, striving for excellence in each of his pursuits. A frequent presence on the Deanâs list during his undergraduate years at American University, Mark Knouse earned his BA in Political Science and soon began a diverse career, with notable accomplishments as a government and corporate relations operative. After periods as Chief of Staff for Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor William Scranton, III, and Chief of Staff for United States Department of Transportation Secretary Drew Lewis, Mark Knouse became Director of Public Policy at BATUS and BAT Industries, serving in this role between September 1983 and May 1989. From there, Mark Knouse joined the executive team at Union Pacific Corporation and Union Pacific Resources and subsequently became Vice President of External Affairs and Secretary. For more than a decade, Mark Knouse directed all facets of communications at Union Pacific, including press releases, annual reports, investor communications, and press conferences, with notable contributions to substantial increases in company stock price, budget preparation and administration, and more. At the end of this period, Mark Knouse returned to his home state of Pennsylvania and served as Vice president of Government Relations for the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce. After a term as a government affairs consultant for Klett Rooney Lieber & Schorling, Mark Knouse was appointed Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Commission for Labor Cooperation, a partnership between U.S., Canadian, and Mexican governments. Today, Mark Knouse operates as a government affairs consultant in Washington, D.C., helping corporate and nonprofit clients navigate various aspects of federal, state, and local regulations.
