Musician in Berlin, Deutschland
Songwriter & string bassist Mark Roman has been active as a professional musician for over fifteen years. Since moving to Germany from New York City in 2011, he's become an integral part of the Berlin cultural scene. As a bandleader, he features the string bass as a solo instrument in the KBCollective.
Mark has studied with Curtis Fuller, Ray Vega, Kermit Driscoll, Doug Weiss, Bret Simner & Greg Cohen. Recently, his work as a sideman has included appearances with Lord Mouse & The Kalypso Katz, J.Z. James & The Southsiders, Rudi Protrudi & The Ladykillers, Amayo's Fu-Arkist-Ra & the oldtime string band The Bear City Ramblers.
He's also added his own handwriting to the American Songbook with original music and lyrics reflecting his own diverse musical roots: a unique mix of motown, church & chamber music, western swing, blues, oldtime fiddle tunes and afro-cuban-jazz shaped his tri-cultural upbringing in Woodstock, New York.
His creative endeavors in New York & Berlin range from concert appearances to world music projects, modern dance collaborations & theater works. With these, he's demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the string bass & its fundamental role in over a century of popular song.
