Mark Sawka

Dr. Mark Sawka serves as a family physician in Woodhaven, Michigan, and is certified and designated as a patient centered medical home. Mark Sawka, M.D., has a background in orthopedic surgery and completed a research fellowship in the subject at Boston City Hospital from 1988 to 1989. He presented his lecture “The Use of Postoperative Wound Drains in Hip Fractures” at the Orthopaedic Trauma Association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia in 1989. The same year, his paper “Ankle Fractures Associated with Unrecognized Lateral Ligament Injury” was published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Prior to his research and practice in orthopedics, Dr. Mark Sawka completed extensive medical study. Following undergraduate studies in biology at Wayne State University in Detroit, he pursued a career in radiation therapy technology at the same school but before completing it he was accepted to medical school. He subsequently completed clinical science work at medical facilities in Detroit and Boston, as well as a Rush Presbyterian internal medicine internship at West Suburban Hospital in Chicago. After completing his work in orthopedics, Mark Sawka, M.D., gained experience as a resident in family practice at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, with the Michigan State University Affiliate Program. From 1991 to 1994, he served as locum tenens physician at clinics in several locations, including Alaska and California. He established his current practice in 1994 as one treating patients of all ages with the best medical care and treatment possible. Dr. Mark Sawka is an experienced outdoorsman and enjoys hunting in Canada for deer, moose, and waterfowl. A conservation-minded hunter, he serves as Treasurer of the local chapter of the nonprofit Ducks Unlimited. Mark Sawka, M.D., has supported The Boy Scouts of America as Den Leader of a Cub Scouts troop and regularly supervises field trips and outings as a parent volunteer at his children’s school. He has a French Canadian wife and takes pride in maintaining a bilingual atmosphere both at home and at his medical practice. Dr. Mark Sawka has long enjoyed competitive sports such as rugby and rowing and participates in an age-30-and-over hockey league in his community.
