Mark Semeraro

A partner at the Newark, New Jersey-based law firm of McManimon & Scotland, L.L.C., Mark Semeraro is an accomplished practitioner concentrating in complex and commercial litigation, employment law, and local government law. A member of his firm’s Special Counsel Services and Litigation practice groups, Mark Semeraro regularly represents municipalities and other New Jersey public entities in disputes with current and former employees. Since 2005, Martindale-Hubbell has awarded Mark Semeraro its highest rating every year, based on surveys of other attorneys, for his legal skills and ethics. Before joining McManimon & Scotland, Mark Semeraro served in senior counsel roles at two prominent New Jersey law firms. At the law firm of Foster & Mazzie, Mark Semeraro successfully defended the City in Studio 45 v. Union City, effectively dismissing all claims against the City and several of its employees. He also handled the fatal shooting case of Anglin v. City of Jersey City. In his subsequent position at Scarinci & Hollenbeck, LLC, Mark Semeraro won several other high-profile cases. In the matter of Oras v. City of New Jersey, Mark Semeraro was victorious in a motion for summary judgment, convincing the trial judge that the matter did not warrant a full and expensive trial, and dispensing with all claims against his client. Experienced in appellate matters as well, Mark Semeraro won before a New Jersey appellate panel on behalf of the Borough of Ringwood in a 2010 suit brought by an employee who had been passed over for a promotion. For the past several years, Mark Semeraro has proven himself instrumental to McManimon & Scotland’s litigation practice. In a recent two-and-a-half-week trial against Cinnaminson Township and its public officials, Mark Semeraro succeeded in convincing the judge to dismiss all but one of six employment claims against the city. After this defeat at trial, the plaintiffs’ counsel agreed to settle for a nominal fee, down from the original claims totaling $400,000. In addition to being the counsel of choice for government entities that encounter high-stakes employment claims, Mark Semeraro has been chosen by a number of municipalities to be an attorney on civil matters. Mark Semeraro serves as Borough Attorney for Bloomingdale and as labor and special counsel for a number of other municipal bodies.
