I have been interested in railways generally and making models of them from infancy. It is in the genes I guess, as my father is a well-known author on several historical aspects of railways; although my grandfather and uncle are much more interested in things that float on water.......
My particular interests lie to the north of the country, where the railways battled through tough but glorious scenery to eek our their difficult living. I am most interested in the 1920's when the beautiful Victorian and Edwardian engines met the attractive crimson lake of the LMS.However, I have dallied with the 1970's blue era diesels and indeed it has provided the subject for the only real layout I have got even close to finishing in the past few decades - Portchullin.
I see making model railways as an art; it might take some science to get there but I am interested in seeking to make the viewer believe that they are there. Whilst this does need some effort to capture the nature of what is being looked at in miniature, it is as much about approach and concept.Although I model in P4, I admire modelling in many scales and gauges.
