He began his career in home contracting with Kenorah Construction as project manager. Several projects headed by Van Dop earned the Georgie Award, which is conferred by the Canadian Home Builders' Association of British Columbia to builders representing industry excellence. Included in his extensive portfolio are several residences in Furry Creek, a reputable British Columbia community set against the Sky to Sea Corridor.
A frequent contributor to benevolent causes, he supports the British Columbia Children's Hospital, the Whistler Health Care Foundation, and the Burnaby Hospital, as well as a number of other local benefits. Van Dop has a wife, Catherine, and two sons, Ethan and Harrison.
