Mark Long

I’m a writer, designer, producer living in Seattle.

I started Zombie with my best friend and business partner Joanna Alexander in 1994 way back in the day when virtual reality was the buzz and the Atari Jaguar was state of the art. Since then I’ve designed and produced over 30 games for every platform from Sega 32X to Xbox Arcade.

Prior to founding Zombie, I had an R&D career that spanned three laboratories: the Sarnoff Research Center, the Institute for Advanced Technology, and General Dynamics’ Combined Arms Systems Engineering Laboratory. While I was at Sarnoff, Joanna and I led a team that developed a virtual reality game console for Hasbro.

I serve on the University of Washington Games advisory panel and have served on a number of technical advisory boards and government committees including the Game Developer’s Conference, the National Science Foundation and the University of Washington Human Interface Laboratory. I got my BS at the University of Texas, where I also received my commission in the US Army.

Recently, I’ve branched out into transmedia design - IP that is created to span multiple media simultaneously. Transmedia spreads a story out so that you can experience a world on multiple screens in any order. It's fun and extremely challenging.
