Marlene Espiricueta

Keene, TX

My full name is Marlene Espiricueta; I was born in February 23, 1992. I come from a big family with a religious background, I was told God should be the base of my life, and as I’ve proven that indeed is true. All of my family is originally from Mexico, but for reasons unknown I was born in Laredo Texas in 1992. When I was a kid I remember getting angry with my mom because everybody had Mexican certificate but me. I grow up in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; I did my basic studies in that country. When I turned 14 my mom enrolled me in high school, and I remember being so scared because I didn’t know the language. That high school was close to my house, therefore I used to cross daily, it was hard but it was worthy. In 2010 I graduate from high school, at that time I knew how to read and write English, but Laredo is a city with a major population of Hispanics and speak English was the hardest thing for me. The language wasn’t a barrier for me to continue further studies. The same year I enrolled in Laredo Community years, I decided for psychology (that’s what I always wanted), I did my basics in psychology for three semesters. My last semester I change my career for a moment and I took the courses required for nursing assistant. For personal reasons I wasn’t able to take the state exam and I didn’t obtain my certificate. I don’t consider that semester time lost (as other people might think), I believe I grew as person and I became more humanistic. In 2012 I decided to dedicate my summer to work as a missionary student, at the same time that I pay my education; I’m still doing it and it has been a blessing. Fall 2012 I enrolled in Southwestern Adventist University, and everything is better than I expected including my English. I have a busy schedule 6 days a week; my hobby is reading good books. I’m very dynamic, sociable, I learn by hands on. I work hard for the things that I want, and my passion is to help others.
