I received the name Marshall Taylor Morgan from my wonderful mother Dana Murphy. We have different last names because at the age of 6 my mom divorced my father Jonathon Morgan and remarried to Mark Murphy. I have adapted to the change and now look to Mark as my father and John as more of a friend. I grew up with my two blood brothers Zach and Alex, who are both in their mid-twenties. I also was raised alongside my stepbrother Shane Murphy. Through elementary and middle school I was always the small skinny kid that got picked on by my brothers. My mom constantly told me that one day we would get along. After denying her idea for seven years, I realized at the age of fifteen that she was right. From then on our relationship improved and they have included me into their group of friends. They all support me greatly in both my athletics and academics.
This year as a freshman at the University of Georgia, I have been fortunate enough to be the starting kicker on the football team. This has made my college experience indescribable because of the unique opportunities such as traveling across the country and performing in front of 92,000 fans. I have been to many places such as Missouri and Alabama, where I have never been to before. The burden that I endure as being the kicker is filled with pressure, but since i have been crushing pigskins with my right foot since 6th grade, I have molded my brain to zone out while on the field and accomplish the task I am given.
People tend to assume that football players are not the brightest students on campus. I am an advocate for proving these prejudiced people wrong. I push myself in the classroom equally as hard as I do on the field. I received a 3.3 grade point average in my fall semester, and this spring I am on track to bump my GPA up depending on the outcome of my finals.
