I grew up in a metropolitan city of Jakarta, Indonesia and am a speaker who values the importance of communication amongst people from all walks of life and believes that learning any languages is always fun and enjoyable.
I discovered my passion in teaching when I was a sophomore in my college year. At that time, I was well known among my classmates for my ability to clearly explain complex ideas and my caring attitude. I then was offered a position as a mentor to teach technology to students and faculty members. My interest in teaching became stronger after I received my Bachelor's Degree from one of the most reputable business schools in New York City. Two years later, I decided to pursue my Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at The City University of New York and graduated Master of Arts in Education in 2013. I also obtained a license from New York State Department of Education to teach general academic subjects and ESL for academic and business purposes. I received a Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership in 2021 and since then I have successfully published my dissertation titled “Female Asian Academic Administrators’ Pathways to Leadership: A Case Study.”
I have been teaching ESL/EFL students in several non-profit organizations, private English institutions, and public universities in New York City for over 10 years and am currently a full-time language immersion program instructor at the City University of New York.
By having the experiences, attending numerous professional development workshops and completing an intensive course in TESOL drama and receiving certifications from International TEFL/TESOL Institute, I feel that my teaching credentials can definitely support any types of learners and their needs.
Having lived, worked and studied abroad, I understand first-hand the many challenges one faces when learning and communicating in a foreign language. In turn, I am keen to help non-native speakers of English overcome these challenges and gain confidence in their target language. Thus, it is always a pleasure to share my passion and incorporate drama and theatre skills, playwright, and modern techniques into my lesson plans. And yes, I transform learning to a whole new experience anyone can ever ask for.
