Marta Arias
Writer, Editor, and Project Manager in Spain
Journalist at the intersection of information, product and strategy.
I co-founded Revista 5W, an independent multi awarded magazine based in Spain that was founded in 2015 after a successful crowdfunding campaign. It was set up to highlight issues neglected by news organisations and has the motto ‘Small stories, big explanations’. As Communications Manager I was focused on engaging with our large subscribers community. I also led the multimedia team that produces El rickshaw, a weekly podcast and newsletter about international information.
I have also worked as an international reporter for a decade. My interest for human rights and global development have led to cover the forced displacement of indigenous groups in Colombia, the fight of women for their land against armed groups, the situation of unaccompanied minor migrants in Spain, the migratory routes in the Mediterranean Sea, the punk cabaret movement in France, the Calais refugee's camp in the heart of Europe, the fight of beggar children in Senegal or the resistance of Baka pygmies in Cameroon among other world issues. My work as been published in The Guardian, The New York Times, Radio France International, De Correspondent, El Mundo and El País among other international media outlets.
I currently work at Teamlabs, a radical learning laboratory where I help to train teams that learn, teams that face uncertainty without fear of not knowing, teams with a constant and continuous learning mentality. Teamlabs is also part of Mondragon Team Academy (MTA): an international community of +2.500 team-entrepreneurs co-creating a global network of social innovation ecosystem Labs.
My educational background is a M.A. in International Political Journalism by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona, Communication Studies by the Panthéon-Assas Université de Paris and a Bachelor´s degree in Journalism by the Universidad CEU San Pablo in Madrid. Spanish is my mother tongue and I’m fluent in English and French.
