Martha Stone

I'm quite influenced as a coach by my years as a coxswain. The shift for me from the 8+ to the launch was apparently perfect because I was constantly treated as an extension of the training staff by the coaches of my own teams, so to me there was absolutely nothing I needed to do in a different way. I still had to be on top of my video game when making technical observations, I still had to be an effective group leader, and I still needed to talk a lot (just as loudly too, in many cases). I try to apply the exact same outlook I have to coxing to training. I intend to be efficient with using our practice time by going out with an identified attitude to obtain things done right "the first time", while recognizing the fact that rowing is a fluid sport that needs many hours of practice and self-reflection to master. I consider myself to be a very laid back, approachable escorts, however when it comes time to get things accomplished, I am unwavering in my pursuit of excellence. I am enthusiastic about helping others reach their athletic potential and want to go above and beyond in discovering new ways to explain and teach exactly what, sometimes, can be a discouraging sport.
