Martin Blyth

NOV 2013 - I'm an Englishman living in Toronto, Canada and after being made redundant I'm currently looking for a job for the first time in 15 years.

After reading lots of articles over the last few months about job hunting, skills needed today, etc, I came upon an article describing the "new kind of T-shaped employee" that employers were now looking for. This T-shaped employee was described as "a type of employee with specific skills but breadth in other disciplines". I liked the sound of this. I have a Business Degree and 20 years experience in Marketing, but breadth across other business functions, so this was a good start.

I quickly embraced this T-shaped philosophy (the thought of changing my name to Mr T crossed my mind!) and have been acquiring new skills to help with my job search. I started up an eCommerce retail store in my spare time (see Empire Made link) and have been updating my Marketing skills by attending an eBusiness / eCommerce Management Certificate course at the University of Toronto. I'm also teaching myself how to use Adobe Creative Suite.

Listed below are some of my favourite blogs, books, music, and videos below which will hopefully give you a better feel for the kind of person I am and interests I have. Please feel free to email me about anything (except hairstyles) you think I might be interested in, job vacancies, etc...

Cheers, Martin.
