I held a faculty position at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. I taught African Linguistics and did research in endangered languages. While on field work, I realized that the communities who abandon their languages are the rural poor, the minorities, the marginalized... And that they switch to the languages of opportunity, in their search for greener pastures, some chance in life! That was how I understood that the root cause of language extinction is mostly, at least in my country, poverty. So I retired early, and founded Green Africa. I founded Green Africa to help the rural communities in post-conflict communities to fight poverty. Green Africa is an anti-poverty campaign working with poor women farmers in rural post conflict communities in Sierra Leone. We use sustainable agriculture to empower women farmers. We work in the most remote parts because the poverty in Sierra Leone is very much a rural problem, a women's issue. I strongly believe that every problem has a solution. I am out to contribute my bit to help tackle the most serious challenge of my society and time- poverty. There are huge agricultural resources in the country. We can mobilize that to tackle poverty.
