Martin Dixon
Calgary, AB
I'm the middle child of a family of 5, a family that has now spread across three countries. Born in Calgary alongside my brothers, but raised in Chile where I went to school, university and entered the workforce. In Canada I'm Martin, but within my family (and in my heart) I'm Martín.
I finished University in 2009 where I graduated as a Journalist and later started to work as a Sports Reporter at Cooperativa Radio and later at Latercera.com, two of Chile's most prestigious media. Overall I got the opportunity to learn valuable skills, meet wonderful people, travel around the country and add some stamps into my passport as well.
But mid may through my tenure at Latercera.com, I made up my mind that I wanted a change in my career. Maybe take a break from sports and from the war-zone type of journalism I was involved in. So I decided to go back to the city where I had my first steps and pursue a certification as a Public Relations Manager. Family is really important for me, so being in a city where I have family that I can lean on has been very valuable for me.
It's been a pleasant tenure so far back here in Calgary. Some memories and images, although most of them vague, come back from time to time into my mind. On the other hand, my passion for Football has not diminished despite not working as a sports reporter and despite living in a Hockey-driven country.
Who knows what the future holds up, but I believe I'm up for the challenge and for anything that lies ahead of me, from both a professional and a personal standpoint.
