With the growth of the internet in homes came the need for business owners to communicate with clients. I started off building basic sites for family members and their business’s eventually branching out to other business owners. I worked doing this freelance for a few years before working with a few companies building online directories. The first directory I worked on was called Global Travel and was an early travel website for Australia and New Zealand. This first directory was also my first time working as a webmaster looking after, updating and building websites on a much larger scale.

From this directory, I moved to a directory of a different kind building websites for small business owners as part of the Queensland Trades & Services Directory. This was a local Queensland small business directory containing micro websites for close to 100 business owners at the time I worked there. These directories were a great way to learn my trade and further grow my skills but eventually, it was time to strike out further on my own.

I continued to freelance for quite some time whilst also working in other industries. I worked across several industries from driving trucks to general laboring. My work in other industries gave me a unique perspective on small business allowing me to better understand my clients in the future.

In 2008 I married the love of my life and shortly after was retrenched from my truck driving job during the global financial crises. I was feeling down at the time and my wife said to me one night why haven’t you gone full time into building websites yourself. I explained that id never really had the nerve or the money to get started. She looked at me handed me her credit card and said stop making excuses.

So here I am 10 years down the track with my own business Conceptual Creative. My wife works by my side as a graphic designer and we look at several business websites and design clients from all over Australia. My experiences and history in this industry and other industries has given me the foundation to succeed. I found that now after 20 years in the industry it is my time to share that experience and help business owners learn from my experience.
