Marvin Bonham
Born and raised in southwest Oklahoma at the onset of the Cold War, “Larry” Marvin Bonham’s life was molded by some of the most defining moments in American history. He came of age just in time to see a man walk on the moon, the start of the Civil Rights Movement and the war in Vietnam.
Bonham graduated from high school as valedictorian and spent four months in Europe before starting college in the University of Oklahoma. He was active in Civil Rights marches and war protests, all the while staying dedicated to his studies. He transferred to Rice University in Houston and graduated magna cum laude with an area major in biology, biochemistry and religious studies.
He was accepted to medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, taking a year of pediatric training at Baylor Medical School in Houston before studying in San Francisco for four months of Pediatric Cardiology training at the University of California, San Francisco. After graduating, he returned to California and started a two-year residency at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Afterward, Bonham worked at a private practice in Los Gatos for 17 years.
Currently in retirement, Bonham is moving back to Houston to pursue his hobby of traveling and his dedication to helping his community.
