Marvin Families for Good Government

Village of Marvin, North Carolina

Marvin Families for Good Government has developed over seven years. To date, we represent about thirty-eight different Marvin families. We rate candidates in terms of whether their priorities are friendly to Marvin and western Union County. We believe Marvin is primarily a place for families and families normally want serenity and wholesome environments governed by policies which nurture community well-being.

Secondly we evaluate whether a candidate is 'good'. It's that simple really. Nobody is perfect. Still, we are always asking our children to be 'good' and they innately know what that means. We want elected officials to be 'good' too...

What We Look For In a Candidate?

1. Through our first election season, MFFGG wanted to know if candidates had viable plans for nurturing community wellness - plans for parks, greenways, safer streets, etc. This will always be important to us.

2. In our second election season we added criteria for evaluating whether residential density, school funding & traffic generation were a candidate priorities; through policy goals or their political affiliation.

3. In this upcoming election we will focus on the priorities we have in the past; but expand our reflections to include vital emphasis on Marvin; Marvin connections, experience, public service records and community involvement. We have become painfully aware of how critical it is to elect candidates with ties to the community and accountable to every day people in Marvin.

How Can Marvin Candidates Impact Marvin Schools or Roads?

Per State laws, there are limits on what a municipality can do but, in Marvin, we support local legislation that keeps residential density low and open space high. This protects our schools by managing the influx of students and it helps regulate the influx of traffic on our over-populated roadways.

We understand how important policy is to Marvin family well-being and we want it to be important to elected officials too --

We do not collect donations or disburse funds to communicate our recommendations. We are only one group evaluating candidates along particular criteria. Though we make every effort to provide research records to support our assessments, we want every voter to seek out varying sources of information which enable them to make voting decisions that are right for them.

Sincerely yours,

~ Marvin Families for Good Government!
