Mary Schoonover
Paxton, Illinois
I grew up in the small town of Piper City, Illinois the second oldest of seven children. I attended Ford Central schools, graduating in 1986. I participated in many activities growing up, such as 4-H and Girl Scouts. In high school I was an active member on the sports teams. I also was a member in many clubs as I believed in being involved.
I was chosen as one of the "Lucky Seven" in 2nd grade. Seven 2nd graders who were taught by a very seasoned elementary teacher along with her regular teaching assignment since the second grade class was so large. I loved this teacher and truly believe my love for education started to bloom! As I grew older, I worked with my middle brother who had behavioral issues and the rest as they say is history.
I earned my bachelor's for special education (learning disabilities and social/emotional disorders, EMH) from ISU. I earned my first masters degree from Olivet Nazarene in curriculum & instruction along with four other Hoopeston teachers. I completed my second masters in psychology-leadership & coaching last summer through online courses from Walden University.
