Maryanne Thorkelson
Co-owner in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Maryanne Thorkelson co-owns Thorwin Properties with her husband Kris Thorkelson. Thorwin Properties provides quality multi-family homes in the Winnipeg area and strives for excellence in purchasing, renovating, and client-focused leasing of its properties.
Maryanne was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and moved around frequently as a child because of her father’s Air Force career. This meant that she lived in different provinces in different homes, an experience that gave her the opportunity to enjoy house hunting with her family — an early sign of her interest in the real estate industry.
In 1991, Maryanne graduated with a Bachelor of Human Ecology degree from the University of Manitoba. She earned another degree, this time in Education, from the same institution in 1993. Maryanne then taught high school and middle school for 5 years in Portage la Prairie and Lockport.
After some time teaching, Maryanne met Kris and the two were married in 1997. They are both family-oriented, which is reflected in the work they do for the many families they work with at Thorwin Properties. The couple help raise four daughters together. Two of their daughters graduated from high school and are now studying in Toronto, and Maryanne keeps busy with her other two daughters and their various extracurricular activities.
Maryanne and her family share five adorable “fur babies” — Puggles the Pug, Penny the Australian Labradoodle, Autumn the Lop Bunny, and Snorri and Louie, the Fancy Rats. When she was a young professional, Maryanne had trouble finding pet-friendly places to live herself, which is why Thorwin Properties values providing residences that accept small pets.
In her spare time, Maryanne enjoys quilting, Netflix, going to the movies with her husband, and spending time with her daughters.
