Ever since I was little, I have been passionate about participating in sports. My mom started me in multitudes of sports, the first one was ballet, then soccer, then tennis. To me, playing sports wasn’t about being good, it was about having fun. But as I grew up, my competitive side grew too. Competition in sports became the fun aspect. When I started playing lacrosse in the sixth grade, my competitiveness started to shine. Lacrosse became my competitive outlet and it really helped me become a better player. I played all through middle school and decided to tryout for the varsity team when I first started high school.
The try outs were competitive, which didn’t phase me too much, but I knew I would have to step up and show the best of my skills. As I tied my cleats tighter, I glanced around at my stiff competition. Everyone there was hoping for a spot but only so many would make it. I wanted to show the coaches that I was good enough to be varsity and so I left it all on the field every day of try outs. In every drill, I’d try to do better than I had before. It made me realize that competition with yourself can improve you the most. And the coaches saw the dedication and improvement every day too, so I was given a spot on the team.
