Mary Nunchuck

Before launching her career as a psychiatrist and addictionologist, Dr. Mary Nunchuck received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Purdue University, where she served as the president of Kappa Epsilon in her junior year. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Nunchuck went on to pursue a D.O. at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Nunchuck paid her way through medical school by working part-time as a registered pharmacist. After earning her D.O., Dr. Mary Nunchuck completed her residency in psychiatry at the Cherokee Mental Health institute and the University of Kentucky Hospitals.

Dr. Mary Nunchuck began her career in psychiatry as a Staff Psychiatrist with the Veteran's Administration Hospital in North Chicago, Illinois. In this role, Dr. Nunchuck provided psychiatric inpatient care to veterans of foreign wars, many of whom had stayed in the hospital since World War II. One year later, Dr. Nunchuck left the VA Hospital to start her own practice in Waukegan, Illinois. In addition to employing three part-time therapists, Dr. Nunchuck performed outpatient evaluations and provided treatment at several nursing homes in the area.

In recent years, Dr. Mary Nunchuck worked as a Psychiatrist with Sebastian Family Psychology in Glendale, Wisconsin. In this role, Dr. Nunchuck provided care to low-income patients from several ethnic backgrounds, particularly the large Hmong population in the area. Dr. Nunchuck also served as a Psychiatrist and Addictionologist at the Racine Community Health Center, where she worked closely with the nurse practitioner to eliminate the long-term use of addictive tranquilizers.

In addition to her psychiatric work, Dr. Nunchuck also maintains activity in and serves her church, managing the parish bookstore and teaching high school Sunday School for nearly twenty years. This year, she was honored as Mother of the Year of the parish.
