María José Ríos

I’m María José Ríos but everybody calls me MaryRíos (Yes, all together), and I’m proudly from the south-neighborhoods of San José.

My biggest passion has always been the storytelling, and luckily I managed to find a career to filled all of my expectations in that area: Audiovisual Communication in the University of Costa Rica.

But you know, sound didn't come natural to me unlike my business partner. Always thought I was going to produce films and commercials for a living, and actually did it for a while, I worked as a producer for about 4 years. I really liked it and I think I was good at it but a part of me felt it wasn’t enough.

But one day, in the middle of my 4th year in the university, the sound found me. A friend ask me to be his sound assistant in a set recording and I said yes. Little did I know it was going to change my life for ever. I completely fell in love with sound and started to study about it by my own means.

When I met my business partner Luigui during a shoot in 2014, we realized how good we worked together and knew this was going for long.

Since then I've been specializing in the Sound Design part, specifically the Sound Editing and Foley Art, and now I'm able to tell stories with a different language! Actually I found a Master degree in Sound Design for me but we can talked about that later. I realized the location shoot wasn't exactly what I wanted and fell in love again but this time with the post production sound.

I've been doing quite a few short films, a movie, documentaries and commercials in this area and now I know I've found my place.
