Mary Scrimgeour

I am a dreamer and a seeker. I write. I paint. I swim. I ride my bike. I cook. From time to time I reinvent myself.
Three years ago I did just that. I sold everything that I owned except my Volvo and my Viking cookware. I condensed and consolidated my life into two bags of clothing, a box of essential art supplies, an updated techno system that could hold small versions of my past life and be put into a tiny mobile container that could hold everything I needed.

I went on the road in search of new experiences, new inspirations and a new way of living in the world. I wanted to redesign, renew and refresh and find a new place to call home. I wanted to see differently and make smaller my carbon footprint.
I packed up two bags and hit the road which has always been a canvas of sorts for me....a place to think, get inspired and take a break all at the same time. It provides a substrate upon which I can create and design my life, tweaking and refining as I go along.
I exchanged paintings for lodging, revisited my natal grounds reconnected with friends and family. I relied on the kindness of strangers, took risks and kept going even when I wanted to give it all up.
I am still seeking and still dreaming -- painting a lot and writing as well. I have gained a new and fresh perspective, renewed energy and a strong clarity. I have found my new home.
