Mariia Chernaia was born in 1998 in St. Petersburg. She graduated from the city children's music school named after S. Lyakhovitskaya (class of Vera Ovcharova) and the St. Petersburg Music College of Music named after N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov (class of Oleg Vainstein). 2023 she graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory (class of Oleg Weinstein).

She took part in master-classes of Atanas Kurtev, Vladimir Mishchuk, Graham Scott, Yurii Bogdanov, Vincenzo Balzani.

In 2008-2010, she was a fellow of the Philharmonic Society of St. Petersburg.

Laureate of the 3rd prize of the A. Rubinstein International Competition (2008); Laureate of the 1st Prize of the Open Piano Festival of Contemporary Music of St. Petersburg Composers (2007); Laureate of the 1st prize of the International Contest named after D. D. Shostakovich (2008); Fellow of the Philharmonic Society of St. Petersburg (2008-2010); Winner of the 1st prize of the S. V. Rakhmaninov International Competition (2008); Laureate of the 3rd prize of the Stockholm International Competition (2015); Winner of the 2nd Prize of the Chopin International Youth Competition (2015); Winner of the Nathan Perelman International Piano Competition (2019). Participated in St.Petersburg International Piano Festival (2019), Laureate of the 3rd prize of the Second All-Russian online-contest "Musical Talents of Russia" (2020).

Mariia Chernaya actively gives concerts at various academic stages, performing not only classical, but also modern music by Philip Glass, Arvo Part, Vladimir Rannev, Boris Filanovsky, John Cage, Nastasia Khrustcheva and others.

Has collaborated with the conductors Alexei Nyaga, Alexei Vasiliev, Ivan Shinkariev.
