Hey there, I'm Matea Andonova! I'm a student living in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. I'm currently in my third year of biomedical science at the University of Guelph. Apart from being a student, I am a volunteer athletic therapy trainer for the women’s varsity volleyball team. I shadow a real athletic therapist in their clinic and learn from them. During practices and games I am alone with the team and pretty much act like an athletic therapist: stretching, taping and treating athletes.

An interesting fact about myself would be that I was born in the small European country of Macedonia and I moved to Canada with my parents when I was 4 years old. Afterwards, I lived in Toronto ON for a few years and then moved to Ottawa ON. Most recently, I attended high school and some middle school in Northern New Brunswick.

Similar to most millennials, I am a fan of coffee, cooking and fitness. I inherited my parents old espresso machine and I consider myself an avid barista. I am also always playing music from the moment I wake up to when I go to sleep. One of my current obsessions is the A Star is Born soundtrack with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Additionally, I am the biggest tennis fan. I watch every single grand slam and I cheer very loudly for Novak Djokovic. Personally, I am incapable of playing Tennis but I enjoy other sports like swimming, skiing and running. I plan on running my first half marathon this summer.

One of the hardest decisions in my life was deciding what program to pick when I applied to university. I am interested in a wide variety of science fields. Physics and astronomy are fascinating and mind boggling to me. My great aunt is an astronomer at Harvard university and she worked on the Hubble telescope. She is someone in the science world who inspires me. Additionally, I am also interested in biology and overall I find the human body astonishing. Embryology and genetics seems so cool to me that at times I almost doubt if it is true. (Don’t worry I am not an antivaxxer!) Furthermore, being involved with athletic therapy on campus has also strung an interest within me.

My current career goal would be to find an internship or job in a healthcare or physiotherapy setting for this upcoming summer. As a result of my various interests I am unsure what I want to pursue as a career. I am hoping that by exposing myself to different careers I will be able to make a decision.

A more fun fact about myself would be that I really dislike sparkles.
