Mathias Mertens

(born 1971) is a Cologne-based scholar and freelance writer. He is a passionate cultural essayist who loves computergames, television and Rock'n Roll.
Mertens has studied culture at Universität zu Köln (Cologne), Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz-Universität (Hannover) and Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe-Universität (Frankfurt/Main). He has been a freelance writer for fifteen years, focusing on essayistic work. Mertens speaks fluent English.
As a scholar he is currently working at the Universität zu Köln, teaching media studies and doing participatory research.
