Matt Swain
Global CEO at Triago
As Global CEO of Triago since July 2022, Matt reports to founder and Executive Chairman Antoine Drean and has operating responsibility for all Triago business: traditional fundraising, secondaries, primary, direct and strategic advisory for both general partners and limited partners.
As the firms first CEO, and previously as a Managing Partner, Matt plays a key role promoting close integration across all five of Triago’s offices - San Diego, Paris, Dubai, New York and London - at a time of blurring boundaries between private equity business lines.
Matt joined Triago in 2019 as an Associate, launching Triago’s primary direct business from scratch - essentially funding single-asset partnerships between GPs and LPs. His rise parallel’s that business’s growth. In addition to being CEO, Matt is a member of Triago’s global Investment Committee for new primary mandates and coordinates relations with the firm’s advisory board, created in 2021.
Primary directs has rapidly transformed into a key expansion area of Triago and is today its largest and fastest growing business. That growth is fueling material expansion in the group’s other businesses as well, leading to new relationships and more mandates in Triago’s traditional fundraising, and secondary general advisory practices.
Matt played a key role in designing a highly effective talent retention program - oriented towards client goals. Triago bonuses are paid based on staff contributions to specific deals, as opposed to the typical “black box,” once-a-year bonus system practiced by most private equity advisories.
Prior to joining Triago, Matt worked at Eaton Partners as an Associate. At Eaton, he worked across business lines in project management, notably helping lead the firm’s origination and execution initiatives with family offices and registered investment advisors.
Matt earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Economics from Colgate University, where he captained the school’s nationally-ranked squash team, setting numerous records. He’s also participated in study programs at the London School of Economics and Columbia Business School. Matt is an American national and holds Series 7, 63 and 24 securities licenses.
