Matt Patricia

Matt Patricia is a seasoned football coach with over 25 years of experience, including 20 seasons in the NFL. He currently serves as the Defensive Coordinator at Ohio State. Patricia has held key roles such as Head Coach of the Detroit Lions, Defensive and Offensive Coordinator for the New England Patriots, Senior Advisor, and Senior Defensive Assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a 3x Super Bowl Champion, 6x AFC Conference Champion, and 13x AFC East Division Champion.

In addition to his storied coaching career, Patricia co-hosted the podcast 'COACH' alongside NFL legends Bill Belichick and Mike Lombardi. The podcast delved into the intricacies of football strategy, leadership, and behind-the-scenes insights from some of the most accomplished figures in the game.

Prior to joining Ohio State, Patricia spent two years back with the Patriots as Senior Football Advisor, a role that included responsibilities akin to a General Manager (2021-2022). During the 2022 season, he also served as Offensive Line Coach and de facto Offensive Coordinator.

From 2018-2020, Patricia was the Head Coach of the Detroit Lions, leading the team to a top-10 defensive ranking in multiple categories in his first season. As Defensive Coordinator for the Patriots (2012-2017), Patricia led a dominant defensive unit that contributed to two Super Bowl titles, four AFC Championships, and eight AFC East crowns. He originally joined New England’s coaching staff in 2004, contributing to three Super Bowl victories over his tenure.

Before transitioning to the NFL, Patricia spent six seasons coaching at the collegiate level, including stints at Syracuse University, Amherst College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering and played center and guard for the Engineers.

A native of Sherrill, NY, Patricia’s coaching philosophy and analytical approach have made him a respected voice both on the field and in media.
