Matt Ellis
Superintendent in Prosser, Washington
Matt Ellis was born and raised in Washington’s Yakima Valley. Matt was a standout wrestler and received a scholarship to wrestle at Oklahoma State University. In 2002, Matt transferred to Oregon State University as a two-time team captain, Pac–10 Conference champion, and runner-up. Matt graduated in 2005 from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 2007, Matt graduated from the University of Cumberlands with a Master's in Arts of Teaching. Before entering the field of Education, Matt served as an assistant wrestling coach at Stanford University.
Matt began his teaching career at Grandview High School, where he taught social studies, coached wrestling, and was a Link Crew advisor. Matt completed his Professional Certification and Administrative Certificate at Grandview through Washington State University. Matt became an assistant principal at Pasco High School, where he was instrumental in building a culture centered around student leadership.
From Pasco, Matt moved to Royal High School. While at Royal, Matt participated in a high school construction project and observed their championship football program. During these years, Matt completed his principal professional certification and superintendent certification through Washington State University.
Matt began his superintendent career in Lind-Ritzville Cooperative Schools. Matt worked with the community to pass a bond to remodel Lind-Ritzville High School and Ritzville Grade School. From Lind-Ritzville, Matt moved to Prosser School District, where he oversaw the completion of construction projects, which included a new high school. Matt is working on a doctorate through the College of William and Mary.
Matt is married to Dr. Charlotte Ellis, the current director of Secondary Education for the Yakima School District. During his free time, Matt likes to walk their four rescue dogs and volunteer to help aspiring young wrestlers develop their talent.
