Matteo Floris

Researcher and Teacher in Solarussa, Italia

Matteo Floris is Research Scientist of Bioinformatics, Adjunct Professor at University of Sassari (Medical Genetics and Bioinformatics) and Associated Researcher at CNR-IRGB. He received a degree in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Padova in 2003 (under the supervision of Prof. Stefano Moro), and a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 2011 (under the supervision of Prof. Anna Tramontano). He was Visiting Research at the Cologne University Bioinformatics Center (CUBIC) in 2004, under the supervision of Prof. Christoph Steinbeck.

Since 2004, he is main author and developer of a number of leading open source software packages in Bioinformatics and Chemoinformatics, novel algorithms and in silico tools for computational biology and drug design.

In the last 5 years, his main research interests focus on

  • the discovery of genetic causes and the study of the druggable pathways in autoimmune diseases,

  • genomic scans of positive selection signatures, and

  • analysis of exome sequencing data of patients with common immunodeficiencies.

Main interests and expertise are in the following fields: systems biology, functional genomics and genome analysis, protein modeling and analysis, computational genomics, strategies to predict human health effects of chemicals.
