Matt Hefler

A part-time instructor at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada, Matthew (Matt) Hefler holds a bachelor of arts in history from St. Francis Xavier University. As an undergraduate student, Matt Hefler made the dean's list in his last 2 years, and also shared the results of his research thesis on Anglo-American relations at an academic conference. While earning a master of arts in history from the University of Calgary in 2012, he researched the role of secret services and secret intelligence in British strategy toward fascist Italy during the years around WWII. He received the Arthur J. E. Child Memorial Bursary scholarship to aid his graduate studies.
More recently, Matt Hefler earned a PhD in war studies from King's College London in 2020. A Commonwealth Scholar and a Rotary International Global Grant Scholar in peace and conflict prevention and resolution, he expanded his research into international diplomacy and intelligence during WWII, this time focusing on Anglo-French relations. He examined archives housed in locations around the world and received supervision from established history scholars at King's College London and beyond. Matthew Hefler joined Saint Mary's University in Halifax as a part-time instructor in 2019.
