Hey, I’m Matthew Simonson — a student at Campbell University (Go Camels!) majoring in Political Science with a Pre-Law concentration and a minor in Christian Studies. I currently serve as the Student Governor of North Carolina through the North Carolina Student Legislature (NCSL), the oldest active student-run legislative body in the nation.

As Student Governor of North Carolina through NCSL, I’ve focused on revitalizing the organization through a platform called Renew 89, aimed at reconnecting alumni, expanding school delegations, and improving transparency and professionalism across the board. I’ve worked with state leaders, faculty, and students to help young people find their voice — and use it to effect real change.

I'm deeply passionate about civic engagement, constitutional law, and making government more accountable. I believe young people have both the power and the responsibility to shape their communities. That means asking questions, listening well, and taking action when something needs fixing — not someday, but now.
