I have been in the mortgage industry since 2005. In twenty years I have seen a lot — but one thing never stopped bothering me.
Seniors living below the poverty line. Cutting meals in half. Choosing between the heating bill and the grocery bill. And sitting, at the same time, on hundreds of thousands of dollars in home equity that the banks simply would not give them access to.
That is not a math problem. That is a failure of the system — and of the people working inside it.
I became a Certified Reverse Mortgage Specialist and a Certified Smart Equity Coach because I wanted to understand every tool available to change that picture. I co-authored the Canada Reverse Mortgage Guide — available on Amazon — with Gregory Stanley CFP, CSEC. Together we also developed the Protected HELOC Approach®, a planning framework for Canadian homeowners 60+ who want flexible, stable access to their home equity without the rigidity of traditional lending. I built Canada Reverse Mortgage Guide because too many seniors had no idea that four lenders existed, that six products were available, or that the right broker can change the outcome completely.
Most of what gets written about reverse mortgages is written by the lenders who sell them or the critics who have never sat across from someone who needs one. I wanted something honest, independent, and complete.
