Matthew White

Music Teacher and Professional Musician in United Kingdom

I am an education professional, programme leader and professional musician with experience spanning secondary and primary education, live events, curriculum leadership, training delivery and community engagement. With a background in both conservatoire training and grassroots education, I specialise in designing inclusive, high-quality creative and educational experiences that support engagement, participation and progression for young people.

I currently teach at a secondary school and sixth form college in South Devon, where I lead a broad programme of curriculum and enrichment activity including concerts, productions, outreach performances and large-scale public events. Alongside teaching, I coordinate complex projects involving students, staff, parents, venues and external partners, with responsibility for logistics, safeguarding, communication, planning and operational delivery.

Across my career, I have worked extensively with disadvantaged learners, pupils with SEND and mixed-ability cohorts, using adaptive teaching approaches to ensure equitable access and participation. I have also delivered CPD and mentoring for staff, contributed to curriculum development and supported whole-school literacy initiatives.

Alongside my educational work, I have experience in communications and digital engagement through my work with independent creative business Knit Me Sane, where I managed website content, newsletters, social media campaigns and promotional materials, alongside operational coordination for national events and trade shows.

I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music where I read composition. I now specialise in orchestral, choral and musical theatre composition. Alongside my work as a composer, I perform as a percussionist, with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall alongside ensembles including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Armonico Consort, as well as functions across South Devon. My work as both a composer and performer has taken place across concert, theatre and community settings throughout the UK.
