Matthew Ence
Matt has both written articles and been a speaker for the National Business Institute's, Institute of Paralegal Education in the areas of both uninsured-underinsured motorist insurance and medical discovery in Nevada over the years. He also served on Medical-Legal Screening Panel for medical malpractice cases from 1999 until it disbanded in 2002.
Mr. Ence was admitted to practice before all courts in the state of Nevada in 1995; and before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1998, and before the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California in 2008.
Since coming to Douglas County Mr. Ence has served as both conflict counsel for the Ninth Judicial District Court for indigent criminal defendants, as well as primary appointed counsel for juveniles. Currently Matt is engaged by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California as counsel for indigent criminal defendants in tribal court.
Matthew is a current or former member of the Nevada Bar Association, American Bar Association, Nevada Trial Lawyer’s Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Matt received an Associate of Sciences degree from Dixie State College, in St. George, Utah, in 1990, and thereafter attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He subsequently received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Bakersfield, in 1992.
Matt was born in Lynnwood, California, but was raised in Sevier County in Central Utah. Following law school, he lived and worked in Las Vegas for almost 7 years before relocating to Carson Valley.
