Johannesburg, South Africa
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Matthew Krouse began as a theatre practitioner (see Market Theatre). In the 1980s he penned plays that were banned by the apartheid censors. For a decade in the 1990s he worked in book publishing (Wits University Press, Congress of SA Writers) where he edited prose, poetry and the first gay & lesbian anthology from Africa. Then he migrated to the famous Mail & Guardian newspaper (mg.co.za) where for 16 years, until 2104, he functioned as arts editor. A recent publication is the art collection "Positions" (2010) for the Berlin Academy of Arts. Today he works at the Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg, writes movie scripts and stories for various publications.
