Matthew Towler
Amherst, Massachusetts, United States
Hey everyone, my name is Matthew Towler. I am currently a junior Marketing major at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I transferred from Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, Ma after attaining an Associate's degree in Business Administration with a 3.47 GPA.
Right now in my life, a passion of mine is my current job. I work part-time for Abercrombie & Fitch in the Impact position. At this job, I look forward to going into work every time that I'm scheduled. My job takes place mostly behind the scenes, in the stockroom. The usual tasks consist of receiving boxed merchandise, unloading the merchandise, sensoring it, and then folding and backstocking the clothes using an organizational system determined by the company, and then maintaining this system so that nothing is out of order. Maintaining the order of this system ensures that we can move merchandise to and from the stockroom to the sales floor to deliver it to the customers as efficiently as possible.
I have worked at this job since June of 2012. Since that is a relatively long tenure in this industry for a part time position, I believe that I have made myself a valuable asset to my store. I have watched managers and fellow associates come and go. In fact, I can recall multiple times where a new manager was asking me for help! I also have trained around 15 people in my position, which has helped me develop leadership skills. While working here has also introduced me to some of the best people I have ever met, but I have also met those whom I have not gotten along with. I believe this is a positive thing however, because it has allowed me to build a sense of professionalism, being able to prioritize the task at hand and the goals of my job using teamwork, despite having less than favorable relationships with some of my fellow employees.
While I love my job and am passionate about it, I realize there comes a time in life where we all must move on. Seeing as how my ambitions extend much beyond a part time job at a shopping mall, in my future I'd like to use the skills I learned in my classes and get a job related to marketing. To be more specific I'd like to use the knowledge of marketing I have obtained, and will obtain, from my classes and use it in combination with modern technology, primarily the internet. I believe my technological experience with social media sites, as well as basic HTML and CSS.
