Matthew Beckerle, showroom manager and yard foreman at Beckerle Lumber Company in Spring Valley, New York, for more than three decades, gained an extensive knowledge of construction materials and supplies through his service to customers. His duties at the family-owned and operated firm included organizing staff, handling forklift work and overall maintenance, and offering his expertise to customers looking for doors, moldings, millwork, and other construction materials. Earlier in his career, Matthew Beckerle worked in conservation in Florida and in New York State.
Mr. Beckerle earned a degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 1989, and went on to complete the graduate program in science education at Iona College in New Rochelle in 1995. In between, he devoted two years to working for the Florida Park Service.
As an assistant biologist at Jonathan Dickinson State Park along Florida’s southeast coast, Matthew Beckerle helped in the tracking of nesting groups of bald eagles, and with bird surveying in general. He also conducted botanical surveys and helped with land management through service on teams assigned to handle prescribed burns.
Matthew Beckerle has additionally worked in conservation at New York’s Quogue Wildlife Refuge. Opened in 1934, the refuge offers seven miles of hiking trails throughout diverse woodland habitats, and encompasses the Pine Barrens, an area home to a rare dwarf pine species.
