M. Hyatt is a painter based in San Diego, California. A self-taught artist whose early recognition includes a First Place award in Drawing from the JB Speed Art Museum and a Kentucky Colonel commendation for excellence, he has spent over a decade building a practice rooted in emotional resonance and luminous color.
He is drawn to the intersection of wildness and stillness — most often embodied by the sleeping fox — and is influenced by the visual language of vintage children's books and mid-century illustration because of the way they bypass analytical thought and speak directly to the body. His layered surfaces of acrylic, watercolor, pigment stick, and wax pastel are built toward a single experience: the restoration of childlike wonder.
Hyatt's work has been exhibited at Adelman Fine Art Gallery in San Diego and the Lexington Art League, and held in private collections across the United States. He has been featured in Create! Magazine, ArtSloth Magazine, and Summur Magazine, and was selected as a public art participant in the Coca-Cola Consolidated Rain Barrel Project through the Lexington Public Library.
Since beginning his fox series in early 2024, Hyatt has been building an increasingly direct relationship with collectors — drawn to the idea that art in this era should be findable, legible, and alive.
