Derrick Matthews
A native of New York, Derrick Matthews offers more than seven years of experience in the Public Affairs industry. Enlisting in the US Army in 2002 as a Food Service Specialist , Matthews completed one combat tour where he was presented with a Purple Heart. After honorable completing his military career, he attended Savannah State University where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Mass Communications and a Master's Degree In Public Relations from Full Sail University. Matthews began his professional career in Public Relations in 2009 as an intern for the Savannah Sand Gnats, a New York Mets affiliated minor league baseball team. After competing this internship, he worked as a Color Commentator and Broadcaster for Paper Boy Sports in Savannah Georgia, where he promoted the sports accolades of athletes in the Low Country Region.Continuing his career in the media, in 2011 Matthews began working for Night Raven Productions. During this time his duties included broadcasting, editing and video production. In 2012, he was hired by the Department of Defense and began his career as a Public Affairs Specialist completing various tasks including producing and directing a weekly newscast.His professional certifications include: completion of the Public Information Officers course sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, completion of the Defense Information School and numerous other leadership courses. Throughout his career, he has provided leadership and guidance and repeatedly delivered strong sustainable results.
