Web Developer, Writer, and Designer in England, United Kingdom
Hi, I'm Matt.
I'm a husband, Dad (of two), freelance web designer/developer, writer and social media manager.
Multi-talented? Kind of!
For the best part of a decade, I worked in retail. I was consistently praised for my can-do attitude, customer service and my ability to inspire those I worked with.
I quickly moved up the ladder wherever I worked, but just couldn't find myself. Although I enjoyed working, it just wasn't soulful enough for me.
So, when I was headhunted for a sales role at a startup, I grasped it with both hands. Although the cold-calling wasn't my forté, I was granted the opportunity to take on and manage some of the key accounts - worth approximately £100m. How could I say no?
But then, after nearly a year, things changed.
My then-girlfriend (now wife!) became pregnant (awesome news), and the house we were in just wasn't suitable for a family of four. So we relocated - to a much nicer area, and closer to her family. It meant leaving the account management role (which was fine, as I had stopped enjoying it), and briefly returning to retail.
When our baby was born in November 2016, I realised that I didn't want to be a Dad who only sees his kids on days off or at night when they're already in bed - so I quit my job, and setup as a freelance web designer and writer.
I haven't looked back since.
I focus primarily on WordPress design - and am looking at branching out into releasing themes and, eventually, plugins into the market place.
As well as web design, I've started offering SEO and Social Media management services - both something I've loved being involved with over the years.
My other interest is writing. I've collaborated with some big brands including Metro, Virgin, unibet, BBC and a number of football fanzines and sites. This is one area that I'm going to be looking at developing further over the coming months.
Watch this space, as they say..!
