Matthew Roberts
Consultant in New York, NY USA
I am Matthew Roberts, a graduate student at Fordham University and a former United States Marine Corps sergeant. Both experiences have led to a unique understanding of my role in society. I love to learn and serve people in a dignified manner. While in school, I majored in finance and minored in philosophy and economics. This leads me to pursue behavioral finance to help businesses and people to make the best financial choices possible. Since I always try to conduct myself ethically and love numbers, Financial Planning seemed a perfect fit. My personal disposition about finance and accounting is “know it or lose it,” in that if there is no plan to use money prudently, then there is no plan to keep it. Through my deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, I have learned the lack of financial planning prevents inter-generational wealth building, thus creating a greater need for government welfare programs. This eventually strains governments and social-economic dysfunction occurs. Personally, I now feel privileged to have learned about accounting and attended Fordham. I want to use my position to help others in the global community. I believe these life experiences will help me fulfill my aspirations. In the future, I want to advocate for financial literacy through a global expedition. A global expedition that will touch the lives of many by increasing awareness.
