I have been lucky enough to work in the live sound industry for around 5 years now.
After leaving school I studied Popular Music for two years at Access to Music in Lincoln. It was during my time there that I first tried my hand in the recording studio and helping out on small gigs.
After Access to Music, I began studying at SAE Institute in London on their BA Hons Recording Arts programme. Unfortunately, for various reasons, I was unable to complete the course there but returned to my hometown of Lincoln where I got my BSc (Hons) in Audio Technology.
During my time at the University I began working at their venue, The Engine Shed. As a member of local crew at the venue, I was able to work for some great bands (eg. Gorillaz, Florence and the Machine, 30 Seconds to Mars) and meet and learn from their touring engineers. Also in my time at The Engine Shed, I was given the chance to engineer for numerous in house gigs and club nights.
In addition to local crew work at the venue, I worked for TCM crew company on a few occasions at Liverpool Arena.
Whilst working at The Engine Shed I was introduced to HPSS Ltd and began freelancing for the company in 2010. In 2013 I started working for them full time.
In my time at HPSS I was fortunate enough to work in various roles for bands and events such as:
Rudimental
Bombay Bicycle Club
The Darkness
Black Star Riders
Little Mix
The Bootleg Beatles
Slam Dunk Festival
Deershed Festival
As of December 2014 I began freelancing once again and in January 2015 I also took on a part time role as a learning advisor for Access to Music Lincoln specialising in live sound.
I'm learning more day by day. That's what I love about this industry. There's always lots to learn and plenty of challenges to overcome.
