Hello, my name is Matt Spiller and I am a grade 10 student at Oakville Trafalgar High School.
Ever since I was a young kid, I enjoyed playing sports. My winter sports have stayed fairly consistent, as I have played hockey pretty much my entire life. Like many little kids do, I played soccer in the summer time, from about age 4, to age 8. Sometime while I was 8 years old, I became interested in baseball, and began playing, and watching it with a passion. I played baseball until I was 10, and enjoyed it to such an extent, that I wanted to move onto rep, however this was not possible as our family was going to be moving to Australia for my dad’s 6 month business trip. During my time in Australia, I met many new friends, and learned many new things, one being rugby. Although I never played in a league while I was in Australia, I began to pick up interest for the sport, playing skirmishes with school friends and going to professional rugby games. When our time was done in Australia and we moved back to Canada, I was 11, and was looking forward to getting back into baseball, although during the first season back, I realized it wasn’t as fun as it used to be. The next year, I dropped baseball and tried soccer. After a season of soccer, I had the same feeling of that I had with baseball, with a lack of fulfilment, so the next year, when I was 13, I gave rugby a go. It was a lot of fun, and remains my current summer sport. I have played 3 years at club rugby and 2 years at school rugby, and in that time, became the captain of my school rugby team.
I attend school at Oakville Trafalgar High School, and consistently earn good grades, as well as having graduated grade 9 with honours. I have created a pretty good study technique for myself which involves hand writing out questions and answers on cue cards by hand, and then running through all the cue cards, repeating every question until I get them all right.
Aside from school, I have hobbies such as guitar and computer programming. I have taught myself both of these skills with little help from others. I do this through watching youtube videos and reading forums. I have been playing guitar for about 3 years. My strong points are basic chords, barre chords, and power chords.. I started programming about 2 years ago, with java. More recently, I have learned bits of C++ and C. My current short term goal is to make a small console game that can be downloaded on the net.
